Solar Social: Designing a locally informed social media campaign that focuses on building public trust in solar power in Lagos
Project Objectives
The ZE-Gen Demand Generation Project aims to drive an understanding of the positive benefits of standalone solar and battery systems. Integrity is bringing cutting edge monitoring and evaluation (M&E) and research services to one of five ZE-Gen-funded projects. Aimed at improving lives by changing public attitudes, the five ground-breaking activities were selected for phase one of the three-phase project following a competitive process.
Solar Social is a community-informed initiative aimed at increasing demand for renewable energy alternatives to fossil fuel generators (FFGs) in Lagos, Nigeria. The project centres on the design of a locally-informed social media campaign, shaped by insights gathered through targeted qualitative research – including focus group discussions and interviews – as well as quantitative analysis of existing social media posts and digital trends.
Project Outputs
Integrity is supporting Tilt House by bringing context-specific research expertise and helping to learn directly from the community. The insights we provide are guiding the development of a compelling and trustworthy campaign, which will be delivered by established micro-influencers in Lagos. Our research lead, Tagbo Ndefo, (pictured) is speaking with families and businesses about their experience with solar versus generators.
By leveraging local voices and social media platforms, the campaign seeks to engage communities, businesses, and local leaders with honest messaging that shifts perceptions and builds trust in solar energy solutions.
Integrity’s contribution also includes the design of a tailored M&E strategy and framework, enabling the project to track and measure behaviour change among key target groups.
ZE-Gen is a leading international initiative working to improve the lives of people across Africa, South Asia and the Pacific Islands by driving the use of renewable energy. The programme is supported by the IKEA Foundation and UK Aid via the Transforming Energy Access (TEA) platform, and delivered by the Carbon Trust and Innovate UK.
